Marine Claims

At Inter Hannover, we have in house claims specialists to handle physical damage and liability claims for Hull and Machinery, Marine Cargo and Freight Forwarders' Liability. We have several years of 'hands on' claims handling and have developed efficient and effective claims handling routines.

Our consistent goal is to bring each case to a resolution that is equitable to all involved parties in as simple a manner as possible.

We also utilize the expertise of independent third party adjusters and surveyors and for this purpose, we mainly use Marconova Survey AB. Please follow the link to their website below for further information:

If a claim occurs

Should a claim occur which involves an insurable loss that has been underwritten by Inter Hannover, please follow the simple steps outlined below to ensure as smooth a claims process as possible.

  • All claims/casualties should be reported to Inter Hannover as soon as possible by telephone, facsimile or e-mail.
  • Inter Hannover will define the action to take after the claim has been reported. We may for instance wish to appoint an independent surveyor/loss adjuster such as Marconova Survey AB.

It is of utmost importance that measures are taken to minimise the extent of the damages, prevent further aggravation of the damages, secure the rights of recovery against the carrier and/or other third party than can be considered liable for the damages and enable swift and correct handling of the claim.

In case of Hull and Machinery claims

  • Take necessary measures to ensure that the extent of the damages is not aggravated.
  • Do not undertake major repairs and/or salvage operations until a survey has been held, unless this is necessary to ensure the continued safety of the vessel.
  • Ensure that any third party that can be considered as liable for the claim/casualty is held responsible for the damages. This should be done in writing.
